Review of Mixed Wrestling Session with Gabriela Alves
I recently had a competitive mixed wrestling session with veteran Brazilian fighter Gabriela Alves in São Paulo, held in the spacious master suite of Hotel Lido, a location ideal for such matches thanks to its super king-size bed.
Gabriela is an experienced and muscular fighter, standing 1.65m tall and weighing 68kg, with a solid background in boxing and jiu-jitsu. At 45 years old, she still competes at a very high level. I’m a blue belt in jiu-jitsu, 1.74m tall, and weigh 79kg — but Gabriela still managed to win our match 9-5.
Her submissions included a variety of effective holds like the schoolgirl pin, hammerlock, crucifix, rear naked choke, and a headscissor-arm-lock combo. I managed a few submissions of my own, including a rear naked choke and full nelson.
Overall, Gabriela was impressive, technically skilled, and very competitive. I highly recommend her for anyone looking to experience a serious but enjoyable session while in Brazil.
